Terms of Service

Last updated October 13, 2026

These terms cover Starling, our AI production service, and purchases from Lodestar Audio. Lodestar Audio is operated by Joseph Percia, a sole proprietor based in California, United States ("we", "us"). By creating an account, subscribing or buying, you agree to these terms.

Who sells to you

Starling subscriptions and credits are sold through our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all Starling orders. Paddle handles payments, billing, tax and refunds for those orders, and its buyer terms also apply.

Our plugins, Doppel and Basalt, are sold through Gumroad, which is the merchant of record for those orders. Using the plugins is covered by our End-User License Agreement.

Starling

What it is

Starling is an AI assistant that works inside your digital audio workstation (REAPER on Windows to start). It uses an app on your computer and our cloud service. You need your own copy of the DAW and of any plugins or samples you ask it to use.

Your account

You need an account to use Starling. Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account, including on computers you link to it. You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent where you live if that's higher.

Plans and credits

Starling is a monthly subscription. Each plan includes a monthly allowance of credits, which are used up by AI work. Quick commands that don't need the AI are free. You can buy extra credits at any time. Current plans and prices are on the Starling page.

  • You can subscribe straight away, or start a plan with an optional 7-day free trial that includes 300 credits and uses the Standard model (Pro and Max unlock with your first payment). You need a payment method to start a trial. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the plan you chose is charged at its monthly price when the trial ends, and every month after that. One free trial per account.
  • Your subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel.
  • A plan's credits are added when each monthly payment goes through. Credits stay in your account while it's open. If we ever introduce an expiry for unused credits, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice first.
  • We may change prices or credit amounts. We'll tell you at least 14 days before a change affects your subscription, and you can cancel before it does.

Cancelling

You can cancel any time from your account dashboard ("Manage billing"). Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, then stops renewing. Refunds are covered by our refund policy.

Your work is yours

Everything Starling makes in your projects (MIDI, arrangements, mixes and audio you render) belongs to you, and you can use it commercially. You keep all rights to your own music, samples and projects. You give us only the limited permission we need to process them to provide the service, as described in our privacy policy.

You're responsible for having the rights to the material you work with, including third-party samples, presets and recordings.

Fair use

Don't use Starling to break the law, to infringe someone else's rights, to attack or overload our service, to resell or share access to it, or to try to extract our prompts, models or code. We may suspend accounts that do.

AI output

Starling uses AI, so it can make mistakes: a wrong note, a setting that doesn't suit your mix, a change you didn't want. It checks its work and every request can be undone in one step, but review what it does before you rely on it, and keep backups of important projects.

Beta and availability

Starling is new and some features are in beta. We work to keep it running, but we don't promise it will be available without interruption, and features may change. If we ever shut Starling down, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and refund any prepaid period you can no longer use.

General

No warranty

Except as required by law, our software and services are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost profits, data or projects. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be waived.

Ending these terms

You can stop using our services and close your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we'll tell you by email or in the dashboard before it takes effect.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protections of the laws where you live.
